Hat Sizing

Does my head look big in this ?

Just as we have different sized bottoms, we also have different size heads !

If you are hiring or purchasing a hat online please ensure that you have measured your head carefully.

To check your hat size, measure around the widest part of your head just above the eyebrows.

Make a note of the measurement in either centimetres or inches.

Top Tips for Wearing Your Hat

There are always exceptions to the rule but the following tips are designed as a guideline.

  1. Avoid wearing the same colour throughout. If your outfit is plain accessorise with colours and/or pattern, and vice-versa.
  2. Select a simple hat if you have a dressy outfit and vice-versa.
  3. The label, or seam, always sits at the back of the head, in line with your spine.
  4. Make sure the hat sits comfortably on your head, a hat that is too large may be made smaller by the use of milliner’s tape or a small pad. The pad should be placed at the front of the hat – this gives the added benefit of stopping an unattractive line appearing across your forehead !
  5. Position the hat tilted, or pull it low over the brow. Wear it straight if the style dictates but never wear it on the back of the head.
  6. To add height, try a high-crown and/or an upturned brim (a down brim or veil will have the opposite effect !)
  7. Never wear a hat that is narrower than your hairstyle.
  8. Mothers-of-the-bride – consider whether your hat restricts “air-kissing” the relatives !
  9. Take time to consider if you will need to wear your glasses/sunglasses. An upturned brim is a good option here.
